This course will cover soft and hard tissue and their functioning in
health and distress. We will cover the muscular skeletal system
including joints, main muscles and their function (their movement in
relation to hatha yoga practice), ligaments and their function and
the stabilization of joints to achieve healthy movement patterns.
Brief Course overview
• Musculo-skeletal anatomy and kinesiology
• Understand sensation in muscles, tendons, ligaments, and fascia
• Functions of joints: stability vs. mobility
• De-mystify kinesiology of muscle movements for all major joints

Chiara Guerrieri studied
physical education and kinesiology in her native Italy and has been
a licensed massage therapist in Seattle since 1983. She began studying
yoga in 1983 as a way to rehabilitate after a car accident and continues
to practice, teach yoga and offer anatomy classes as a way to heal
the split between body and mind.
Chiara recognizes the the importance of having a concrete understanding
of anatomy and physiology in order to move safely and comfortably.
Her anatomy classes are geared toward yoga instructors, students
with injuries and students interested in gaining a solid knowledge
of the structure and function of anatomy principles. Her classes
typically cover the topics of :
- functional anatomy
- visual assessment
- problem solving
- experiential integration of concepts and a yoga practice
Chiara taught anatomy, physiology and kinesiology at the Brian Utting
School of Massage, in Seattle Washington. Since 2000, she has been
the lead anatomy instructor for several Yoga Teacher Training Programs
including 8 Limbs Yoga, Ana Forrest and Yoga House. Her twenty-hour
anatomy courses meet the requirements for the Yoga Alliance Certification.
